Sensei David Hare (3rd Dan)

Sensei David Hare has been practicing Shotokan Karate for over 27 years, since the age of 17.  Prior to this he was a judoka from the age of  11.  Training in judo has stood him in good stead for the sweeps, takedowns and use of weight distribution associated with karate.

During Sensei Hare’s teenage years he regularly trained 4 times a week and karate quickly became a major part of his life.  His original Sensei’s were Steve Cooley and Rod Gentry both being excellent karateka in there own right, to whom Sensei Hare still has the utmost respect and gratitude.

Kicking has always been a major part of Sensei Hares karate to which he has dedicated years of practice.  This gives Sensei Hare the ability to communicate effectively what foot positions and weight distribution is required to maximize power whilst putting the least amount of stress on the body.

Below you can see still images of Sensei Hare performing a jumping spinning Yoko Geri Kekome on a heavy bag.

Although Sensei Hare has always enjoyed all aspects of karate it was kumite (fighting/sparring) which has given him the most enjoyment through the years up until the present day.  While still a brown belt Sensei Hare, competing against black belts of various Dan grades won the South Coast Kumite Competition.  This gave him the bug and resulted in Sensei Hare entering numerous competitions.  This culminated in his early twenties when Sensei Hare represented his association at national level and was later voted as the T.S.S.K Kumite Squad coach.  During this time he took various teams to Crystal Palace where he would both coach and compete.

His main competition achievements were

E.K.B Champion (Gold Medallist) 1988 Middleweight

T.S.S.K National Champion (Gold Medallist) 1986 Heavyweight

T.S.S.K National Champion (Gold Medallist) 1985 Middleweight

T.S.S.K National Team Champion (Gold Medallist) 1985

            T.S.S.K National Silver Medallist 1984

Sensei Mick Billman (8th Dan) has had a major role in Sensei Hare’s karate since he was 24.  Sensei Hare regards Sensei Billman as being the person who has made him into the karateka he is today.  Sensei Billman has a vast knowledge of karate and is highly respected within the governing bodies technical committee.

Sensei Hare has two boys Christopher and Michael both of whom practice Shotokan Karate and have from an early age.  He has seen through them the confidence and discipline that practicing karate can give.
